AVC169 2D Media Design 3 Credits

Generation of two-dimensional (2D) images, designs, and media using digital and traditional methods of visual problem solving. Understanding digital and design-based techniques and workflows.

A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

Course Notes: ART169 is required for the Certificate of Completion in Digital Arts: Web Design, Digital Illustration and Graphic Design. It is also required for the following tracks in the AAS Digital

Arts Degree Web Design, Digital Illustration and Graphic Design. Software used: Adobe Illustrator

Students in this class will be provided an Adobe Creative Cloud account tied to their MEID username, for home use on PC or Mac computers (smartphone or tablet mobile devices are not supported) during the duration of this course. Students should review the minimum configuration requirements to run Adobe CC on their personal device at:

Introduction to vector art creation using Adobe Illustrator, introduction to elements of design & principles of design, introduction to font, layout composition and hierarchy, intermediate color theory, usability, and accessibility in design.

AVC177 Digital Photographic Imaging I 3 Credits

Introduction to multiple elements of digital imaging. Basic foundation in photographic manipulation of images, with special attention to aesthetic foundations underlying photographic composition.

A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

Course Notes: This is a beginning Photoshop course. While learning the software, the students create projects that help shape their compositional and typographic skills.

Students in this class will be provided an Adobe Creative Cloud account tied to their MEID username, for home use on PC or Mac computers (smartphone or tablet mobile devices are not supported) during the duration of this course. AVC289 Computer Illustration 3 Credits

Introduction to the multiple elements of commercial illustration using the microcomputer. Basic foundation in the use of computer techniques including color paint and draw programs for the production of commercial illustrations for publications and printed matter. Use of and output devices.

A grade of C or better required in all Prerequisites. Prerequisites or Corequisites: AVC100 or permission of Instructor.

Course Notes: This course builds upon the Adobe Illustrator skills gained in AVC169, advancing digital illustration design and technical skills.
