Develop and apply critical thinking skills through critically reading varied and challenging materials. Includes analysis, evaluation, interpretation, and synthesis through at least two substantial writing and/or speaking tasks. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in [(ENG101 or ENG107) and (RDG100, or RDG100LL, or RDG111, or RDG112, or RDG113)], or a grade of B or better in ALT100, or an appropriate district placement, or permission of Instructor.

RDG100	Successful College Reading					3 Credits
Emphasis on reading study strategies for any introductory class in any subject area. Introduction to Learning Management System (LMS), how to successfully read course textbooks and assessments, how to navigate information technology and development of academic vocabulary. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ALT100, or ESL202, or appropriate reading placement, or permission of Instructor. Corequisites: Any 100-level course in another content area, or permission of Instructor.
Course Notes: Students who test into RDG091 are now able to satisfy the RDG091 requirement with RDG100. This class is designed to help students read the necessary college level material used in a companion course in another discipline. Students must be co-enrolled in any introductory course in another content area to take RDG100. It is highly encouraged that you attend the FREE MCC Reading/Writing Boot Camps that occurs prior to the beginning of the semester. Participants will review key skills necessary for success; participants will be better prepared for their course. Equivalent of ENG101 for students of English as a Second Language (ESL). Emphasis on rhetoric and composition with a focus on expository writing and understanding writing as a process. Establishing effective college-level writing strategies through four or more writing projects comprising at least 3,000 words in total. Equivalent of ENG101LL for students of English as a Second Language (ESL). Supplemental instruction for composition courses. Focus on developing effective writing processes to address a range of rhetorical situations. Prerequisites: Appropriate writing placement test score, or (a grade of C or better in ESL202. Corequisites: ENG101, or ENG107).
