Fall 2024

MAT141 College Mathematics 4 Credits

Working knowledge of college-level mathematics and its applications to real-life problems. Emphasis on understanding mathematical concepts and their applications. Topics include proportional reasoning, modeling, finance, probability, and statistics.

Prerequisites: An appropriate District placement, or a grade of C or better in (MAT052, MAT053, and MAT055), or (MAT055, MAT056, and MAT057), or MAT085, or MAT09+, or MAT103, or MAT114, or MAT115, or MAT12+.

Course Notes: MAT141 is appropriate for the student whose major does not require college algebra or precalculus.

This class may require a graphing calculator and/or online software package, such as MyMathLab, that may result in an additional cost to the student. Some instructors allow the use of the online textbook that accompanies the online software package in lieu of a physical textbook. Contact your instructor for details. All students must meet the MCC Mathematics Department prerequisite requirements for each class. See www.mesacc.edu/departments/mathematics-computer-science/mathematics/resources/ for department policies.

It is highly encouraged that you attend the FREE MCC Math Boot Camp that occurs prior to the beginning of the semester. Participants will review key skills necessary for success; participants will be better prepared for their course. Visit https://www.mesacc.edu/students/foundations-student-success/boot-camps for more information and to register.
