WLD101 Introduction to Welding 3 Credits

Introduction to safe operation of shop equipment and common joining and thermal cutting processes used in the welding industry. It is designed to provide a brief exposure to the SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OFW, OFC, PAC processes while developing incremental hands-on skills through sequenced lab experiences.

Prerequisites: None.

WLD106AA Introduction to SMAW 5 Credits

Introduction to arc welding with emphasis in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to cut and prepare weld joints utilizing current technology. Develops hands-on skills through sequenced lab experiences.

WLD106AB SMAW 6010 Plate 5 Credits

Continued training in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) with emphasis on using E6010 (fast-freeze) electrodes in all joint positions. Focus is on fillet welds for structural steel and open root groove weld joints.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in WLD106AA or permission of Instructor.

Continued training in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) with emphasis on using E7018 (low hydrogen) electrodes in all joint positions. Focus is on fillet welds and groove weld joints with backing to prepare students for welding code certification testing.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in WLD106AA or permission of Instructor.
