CON102 Foundations of Construction Trades 6 Credits

Introduction to construction trades with an overview of standard practices in the construction profession, including safety, construction drawings, tools, and material handling. Includes workspace maintenance according to professional standards and basic calculation skills in the construction environment, including primary operations. Examines the United States standard and metric units of measurement, orthographic figures, and area and volume calculations for two and three-dimensional objects. Provides students with the information and skills to read and understand construction drawing. Includes basic rigging and material handling procedures. Prerequisites: None.

GTC107 Technical Mathematics I 3 Credits

Mathematical principles to include basic operations, significant digits, exponents, square roots and order of operations. Solve problems using arithmetic, signed numbers, percentages, fractions, exponents, and square root. Use of hand held calculator. Technology related problems. Prerequisites: None.

Fundamental algebraic operations. Problem solving involving metric measurement, gears, pulleys, simple mechanism problems. Areas and volume calculations of geometric figures. Essentials of trigonometry for solving right and oblique triangles.

Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in GTC107 or permission of Instructor.
