Notes: Class 27234 Afternoon Cohort Lab: Mon and Tues 3:30pm to 6:15pm and Thurs 11:00am to 6:15pm. Clinical experiences are scheduled on varied days. All students will rotate into clinical assignments and simulations after week 8 in the semester; days and times will vary. Introduction to the role of the nursing assistant for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the nurse assisting scope of practice. Includes basic problem solving processes specific to meeting the basic and holistic needs of clients, therapeutic communication skills, interventions to ensure the needs and safety of the client, specific types of diseases, conditions and alterations in behavior of the client. Focus is on the special needs of the older adult client in the acute and long-term care settings, and basic care skills and procedures. Provides opportunity for the development of clinical competency in the performance of selected nurse assisting skills and procedures through participation in the care of clients. Prerequisites: Reading and math assessment as well as completion of all required Health and Safety documents. |
